Another year has come and gone and with the Academy Awards handing out its beloved Oscar statuettes on Sunday, I thought it was about time to compile a list of the best movies I saw this year. There were certainly some I missed, some I liked more than others, and some I liked a fair bit less than others. So hopefully you can look at this list as just one person’s opinion and not a definitive list. There will be “snubs” and “movies that don’t belong”, but that’s simply because a lot of film criticism is subjective. You’re not wrong. I’m not wrong. We have different opinions and that’s okay. But I think you will find that a great many of the films on my list do appear on many other critics list from 2018.
I decided this year to not rank my list, but rather present it in alphabetical order. Although I will say that The Rider was my favorite film of the year, followed closely I think by Minding the Gap, but all the films on this list are deserving of your attention. (I saw 102 2018 eligible films as of this post.)
